Fair Play in Music

Before you give up your master

The “Camisa 10” model was for Tu Música to come in as co-owner of each recording in exchange for distribution and promotion with Ronaldinho. Many of us said yes out of excitement at working with him. This is what the public numbers show today, and what I would do differently.

What the public numbers show

On July 15, 2026, ASJ Consultoria celebrated on Instagram that Tu Música had passed three million monthly listeners on Spotify. On October 9, 2026 it had 834,615.

The two most played songs on the album are Sean Paul's (4,552,865 streams) and Pitbull's (2,062,606). Those artists already brought their own audiences.

Tu Música's latest single, “El Rico Rico – Joga Rico”, came out on September 25, 2026 with Ronaldinho in the credits. Two weeks later it has 12,622 streams on Spotify. I do not say this against its artists, who trusted the project as I did. I say it because Ronaldinho's name, on its own, does not bring the audience.

What I would do differently

  1. Do not trade ownership of your master for promises

If you give up part of your recording, you give it up for good. If the promotion never comes, the master does not come back on its own. If you are going to share it, get it in writing that it reverts to you if the other side does not deliver.

  2. Put the promotion in numbers and dates

How many posts, on which accounts, on which dates and with which mentions. “It will happen” is not a date. Ask what happens if it does not.

  3. Ask for the portal and the statements from the first month

With gross revenue and every deduction, and with the right to audit. My first statement arrived four months after the release and started in July. It is in The numbers.

  4. Look at the label's numbers before you sign

Its monthly listeners, its latest releases and how many streams they have. It is public data and takes five minutes to check.

  5. Confirm in writing who sings and how the credits will read

If you are promised a vocal or a collaboration, put it in the contract with a date. What happened with my songs is in Ronaldinho.

  6. Keep everything

Contracts, messages, sessions and dated screenshots. For the steps before you hand over a production, read the guide.

What was promised on this project and what happened is in Promises. This is what I learned from my own case, not legal advice: for a specific contract, talk to a lawyer.
